Why I love lemons! 

Waking up with blemishes can be aggravating. Need a quick fix?  Use half a lemon and put a few drops of honey on it. Rub the lemon all over your face and leave on for 5 minutes. It will clear up your skin and fade away marks/spots.

Feel that tingle in your throat, followed by coughing and flu like symptoms?  Dilute lemon juice in a glass of water and gargle a few times a day to cure a sore throat. Squeeze the juice of one lemon in hot water and drink throughout the day.

It’s that time of the month again! Bloating, pain, discomfort, heavy bleeding….Lemons relief menstrual pain and ease bleeding. Drink the juice of 3-4 lemons in cold water every day of your period.

Joint and nerve pain is killing you? Grate the skin from 2 lemons (minus the white part) and gently rub the treated lemon peel into the affected part of the body. Wrap in warm cloth and repeat every few hours.

 

Rosemary is one of my favorite home remedies to use! 

It tastes delicious, smells good, and is a helpful herb to have in your cabinet.

Rosemary is a powerful antioxidant which can protect your brain from toxins and effects of aging. This herb can help fight colds and the flu. It soothes your cough and improves your breathing. It acts as an powerful antibacterial/anti-fungal herb and is an excellent antiseptic mouthwash.

 

Rosemary tea makes a great hair rinse which promotes hair growth, restores your color and gets rid of dandruff.

Drinking rosemary tea will stimulate blood circulation and can ease headaches and migraines.

 

Oh yes! We all want to fit inside those skinny jeans again.

To cleanse your system and shed a few pounds, I use Cayenne pepper. Cayenne pepper is a spicy, aromatic powder, also known for its pain-relieving properties. This spicy firecracker improves digestion, fights infection-causing bacteria, and is a good source of different vitamins and minerals. Drinking a Cayenne pepper/water mixture every morning helps cleans your system of impurities, eliminates toxins and burns excess fat. Simply squeeze the juice of half a lemon (must be freshly squeezed) into a 10oz glass of purified water, add two teaspoons  of Agave syrup and 1/10th a teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Good luck!

 

Need some spice in your love life?

Many women and men try to find substances that can enhance their sexual desire to bring back pleasure to their sex life. All they really need to do is to open their spice cabinet and find the simplest, yet very effective aphrodisiacs. By the way,  the word aphrodisiac comes from the Greek goddess Aphrodite, who is the goddess of love and sensuality.

A stimulating herb for women is Ginseng. It acts rejuvenating for your body, triggers certain biochemical mechanisms which increases libido.

Men are easily aroused after eating chocolate: Pure chocolate is considered the king of natural aphrodisiacs for men and contains certain “feel-good” chemicals like phenylethylamine, which is responsible for the feeling of pleasure and excitement.  Chocolate releases serotonin in the brain, a chemical that aids in relaxation and triggers every man’s sexual desire. Many years ago, a physician who detected heart disease, diabetes, stroke or pregnancy would probably not refer the patient to a gum specialist. Physicians are taking gum disease more seriously because patients with gum disease were 40% more likely to have a chronic condition on top of it.

Bacteria that build up on our teeth make gums prone to infection and our immune system moves in to attack the infection. The gums become inflamed and remain until the infection is brought under control. The result ranges from Gingivitis to severe gum disease, known as periodontitis. Inflammation can also cause problems in the rest of the body.

What is Gingivitis?

  • An inflammation of the gums. 
  • The direct cause of gingivitis is plaque the soft, sticky, colorless film of bacteria that forms constantly on the teeth and gums. If not removed by daily brushing and flossing, it produces toxins (poisons) that can irritate the gum tissue.
  •  Gingivitis can be reversed.
  •  If left untreated it can become periodontitis.

How do I Know if I Have Gingivitis?

  • Red, swollen, tender gums that may bleed when you brush.
  • Gums that have receded or pulled away from your teeth, giving your teeth an elongated appearance.
  • Some people may experience recurring bad breath or a bad taste in their mouth, even if the disease is not advanced.

How can I Prevent Gingivitis?

  • Good oral hygiene, proper brushing 2 times a day and flossing daily
  •  Professional cleanings; once plaque has hardened and built up, or become tartar, only a dentist or dental hygienist can remove it.
  • Eating right to ensure proper nutrition for your jawbone and teeth
  • Avoiding cigarettes and other forms of tobacco
  • Scheduling regular check-ups with your dentist
What is Tartar?

  • Tartar, sometimes-called calculus, is plaque that has hardened on your teeth.
  • Can also form at and underneath the gumline and can irritate gum tissues.
  • Tartar gives plaque more surface area on which to grow and a much stickier surface to adhere, which can lead to more serious conditions, such as cavities and gum disease

What is Plaque?

  • Plaque is a sticky, colorless film of bacteria and sugars that constantly forms on our teeth.
  •  It is the main cause of cavities and gum disease, and can harden into tartar if not removed daily.
What is a Prophylaxis or dental cleaning?


  •  A cleaning of teeth as a preventative measure against periodontal (gum) disease and tooth decay above and below the gumline.
  • Removal of plaque and calculus by using an ultrasonic device and instruments.

 

 

What is Periodontal disease? 

  • When gingivitis is not treated, it can advance to periodontal disease.
  • Gums pull away from the teeth and form “pockets” that are infected.
  •  The body’s immune system fights the bacteria as the plaque spreads and grows below the gum line.
  • Bacterial toxins and the body’s enzymes fighting the infection actually start to break down the bone and connective tissue that hold teeth in place.
  •  If not treated, the bones, gums, and connective tissue that support the teeth are destroyed.  The teeth may eventually become loose and have to be removed

How is gum disease linked to diabetes and heart disease?

Inflammation that starts in the mouth seems to weaken the body’s ability to control blood sugar. People with diabetes have trouble processing sugar because of a lack of insulin, the hormone that converts sugar into energy. Gum disease then impairs the body’s ability to utilize insulin. High blood sugar provides ideal conditions for infection to grow, including gum infections.

About 90% of patients with heart disease have periodontitis, compared to 66% of people with no heart disease. Inflammation in the mouth causes inflammation in the blood vessels and can increase the risk for heart attack because inflamed blood vessels allow less blood to travel between the heart and the rest of the body, raising blood pressure. Fatty plaque will break off the wall of a blood vessel and travel to the heart or the brain, causing a heart attack or stroke.

 

 

 


When I worked out today, I noticed a sudden happiness and peace filling up my body. As I paddled on my cardio machine with a grin on my face, sweat pouring down my back, I couldn’t help but wonder, what is actually causing this? It is called endorphins  Endorphins are a chemical, released by your body when exercising. These chemicals reduce perception of pain, trigger positive feelings in the body and boost your mood which lowers depression. Regular exercise also improve sleep, increase self-esteem, strengthen your heart, increase your energy lever, lower blood pressure…..oh and of course it improves muscle tone, strength, builds bones, reduces body fat and makes you look good.

A great way to reduce stress is practicing yoga. Yoga reduces the impact of exaggerated stress and is helpful for anxiety and depression. Yoga is the unity of the mind, the body and the spirit. It is a wonderful way to increase flexibility. Many athletes push their bodies to the limit but cannot touch their toes. When working on your flexibility, take deep long breaths and concentrate on your balance. By using yoga poses, you are not only stretching your body, but all of your soft tissue of your body (ligaments, tendons).

Another great way to get these endorphins flowing is weight lifting.  It improves muscle strength and muscle tone.  If you strengthen your muscles, you can improve your posture and balance. Weight training also can help prevent osteoporosis. Postmenopausal women are especially prone to osteoporosis because they lack estrogen. Strength training increases bone mass, especially spinal bone mass.  Women, who do not participate in strength training, actually experience a decrease in bone density.

Cardio! We all hate it somewhat, but it is very important. Not only does it shed unwanted fat and trim your body, but it also pumps extra blood to your brain to deliver oxygen and nutrients.  It floods the brain with chemicals to enhance memory and problem solving.  Cardiovascular health is important to improve learning and memory. In addition, it lowers stress level and boosts your mood.

Did you know that exercise improves your sex-life? Exercise boosts your testosterone levels and increases the blood flow in your genitals and even improves your orgasms. Who knew that getting sweaty could be so sexy?

What is the difference between organic foods and natural/processed foods? Organic food has no preservatives, added chemicals or other types of fertilizers. Animals are not given any antibiotics or growth hormones. Natural, conventional and processed products can have preservatives, chemicals fertilizers and pesticides added to them, and the animals are given antibiotics and growth hormones.

Organic refers to the way farmers grow and process agricultural products, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat.  Organic Farmers don’t use conventional methods to fertilize fruits and vegetables or to prevent livestock diseases. They use plant and animal matter such as manure, worm casting, turf, seaweed, humic acid and guano to feed soil and plants.

 

 

Processed foods have been treated with synthetic pesticides which are mixture of chemicals to prevent, repel or kill any pest. They are hazardous! They are designed to kill living organisms that are conserved “pests”. Pesticides are toxic to human health and the environment.Processed food contains preservatives, which is a substance used to preserve foodstuffs against decay. Preservatives, such as Nitrates and Nitrites are used to preserve ham and bacon and are known to cause asthma, nausea, vomiting and headaches. Sodium nitrate preserves salami, hot dogs, pepperoni, bologna, ham, bacon and SPAM. In animal studies it caused high rates of cancer. Benzoic acid aka benzoate added to margarine, fruit juices, and carbonated beverages. It can produce severe allergic reaction. Sulfur dioxide is a toxin used in dried fruits and molasses as well as to prevent brown spots on peeled fresh foods such as potatoes and apples. It bleaches out rot, hiding inferior fruits and vegetables. In the process, it destroys the vitamin B contained in produce. Artificial sweeteners are linked to behavioral problems, hyperactivity, and allergies.   Because saccharin was shown to increase the incidence of bladder cancer in animal testing, all foods containing this sugar substitute are required to carry a warning label.

Organic food does not contain preservatives and therefore no traces of strong chemicals and taste better than non organic food. Since harmful chemicals or preservatives are not used in organic farming, there is less environmental pollution and the welfare of the animal is an important aspect when consuming animal products. An organic food is also more nutritious because it retains more vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids because they don’t have to undergone chemical alterations like processed foods.

 

Choose organic food to prevent ingestion of pesticides and insecticides and live a healthier lifestyle.

 

 

 


Unconditional love

Unconditional love is known as “affection without any limitation”. We all want it, we all want to feel it, and we all want to feel loved. We hear people talk about it and hear songs about it. There are thousands of self-help books about true love…

Somehow, we are all longing for it. We are searching on the internet for it; we go out with friends, hoping “Mr(s). Right” will appear so we can live happily everafter, and we sign up for activities in order to meet the missing puzzle piece in our life.

What really is unconditional love? It is definitely different from the kind of love most of us experience. In fact, it is a journey, not a destination. From an early age on, we are taught that love is someone that we find outside of our self, and that we are very fortunate if the right person will come along, and if that happens we live happily everafter.

Unfortunately, many times we give our love to the wrong person. We marry or date “Mr(s). Wrong” because we are tired of waiting for someone else, being afraid that nothing better will come along, or we are blindly ‘in love’ without being able to see the real truth. Love, just like joy and peace, is not in tangible things we seek and find outside of us.

They are in fact qualities that are already IN-side of us. We are only to unmask them. True LOVE is JOY in the heart….in your heart. When you are in love with yourself and your world, do you feel an expansive joy inside, bursting to express the same outwardly. This is what we call the “Overflow”. Only when we own the gift of love, can we give and receive it from others.

Look in the mirror and ask yourself today: “How much do I love myself?” If you don’t love yourself that much, you need to start doing so immediately. Affirmations are very helpful. Hug yourself every day and tell your mirror image how crazy you are about yourself. Tell yourself how much you appreciate yourself and how much you love yourself unconditionally with all your flaws. Your lovely imperfections shaped you into the perfect YOU, you are right now.

Find forgiveness in your heart for all the people who have hurt your feelings. Forgive your parents, your siblings, your spouse, your teacher, God, …the whole world if you have to. This will clear your heart from negative energy and allows the flow of love.
Once you have done that, you can easily receive love from another person in a powerful way. This person will be able to love you unconditionally. In fact, for this person, your imperfections make you more attractive and loveable. True love alone has the power to heal, bind and create a deep relationship. This person will be greeting you at the door every day, grabbing your face and putting kisses all over it, looking into your eyes and telling you, you were missed and loved…. Two great loves (yourself and your soul-mate) = unconditional love. The greatest power known to man is that of unconditional love, because it is a limitless way of being.


Erotic energy is life energy

As civilization has evolved, we separated mind and body, head and heart, sexuality and spirituality.  We mostly stop or limit intimacy and simply forget what it means to be fully alive. This causes us to lose touch with the beautiful pleasures and experiences of sexuality.  Erotic energy is all about living. Those who have repressed sexuality have automatically, unknowingly, suppressed other areas of their lives. Erotic energy is naturally a part of survival and not shameful or embarrassing.  Sexuality means joy, love and healing.  If you are not joyful about it, it is difficult to take pleasure even in simple things, like a pretty sunset, a beautiful rainbow….enjoying watching others laughing and having a good time. Frequent Reiki energy treatments can actually help balance your chakras to fully experience the feeling of life.

Living a healthy sexual life lowers stress, boosts immunity, burns calories, improves your self-esteem, and deepens intimacy between you and your partner. It is a dance between male and female energies. It brings you closer, it bonds you with your partner and it creates a deep connection.

How would you define a healthy and happy relationship?  Having a mutually gratifying relationship, in which both (female and male) enjoy sexuality equally, is ideal. Being open about needs and preferences are just as important as the frequency of “doing it”. Our bodies and sexuality are divine. When jointly reaching the peak during an erotic moment, our souls touch with another and can really do no more. Energetically, you have exchanged everything there is and shared unconditional love together. You created growth and healing often only experienced between soul-mates, and two people who share unconditional love.

Create a night of erotic energy and pleasure. Imagine yourself surrounded by candles in a room full of aromatic scents, soft music and light.  Would you like to take a bath together? Envision yourself gently soaping each other’s body while lying in bathtub full of warm water. To open up the flow of energy in your bodies, close your eyes and relax your body. The intention is to be so relaxed that it activates your energy centers called chakras. Leave your cares behind and focus on self and beloved. Reach out to you partner and feel his or her heart, belly, and body.  Heart represents relationship and love, belly emotions and body need for desire.  Leave behind the stress of the day and emerge within the relaxed, sensual moment. Enjoy yourself, take your time, and don’t rush into anything. Create a moment of closeness which brings you to the peak of intimacy.

 

 


Common sense would dictate that eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly will help you achieve a healthy body and mind. If you feel tired, stressed, sluggish, depressed, are easily exhausted, overweight and have little or no energy these problems may be due to the acidity of your body and you seriously need to consider a complete body-detox. Normally, our bodies strive to balance our system. However, if the imbalance in favor of acid is too large, prolonged acidification of the body will lead to premature aging. Hypertension, pre-diabetes, and cancers are only some of the so-called “silent killers” which are caused by and thrive in a highly acidic environment. 

Meat, pork, poultry, fish and seafood are all acid-forming in your body. They are rich in phosphorus and sulfur-containing amino acids. Most fish and pork is somewhat acid-forming, as is most poultry. According to the “Acid Alkaline Food Guide,” lobster, shrimp and mussels are very acid-forming, as is all beef. Eggs and dairy products are slightly-to-moderately acid-forming. Aged and heavily processed cheeses are highly acid-forming. Processed, refined, fried and sugary foods are primary source of acid-forming foods as are all alcoholic beverages.

You can re-balance your body by eating more alkaline foods, such as fresh fruit, vegetables, tofu and sprouts. Is it important to always drink a lot of water, engage in exercise, and perform an actual detoxification of your body.

Our colon is the “sewer system” of our body. The liver, kidneys, gallbladder and other organs require regular cleaning.  When I detox myself, I start out by eating as much raw foods (veggies and fruits) as possible for one week. They are high in fiber and have a brilliant cleansing effect on the body. Uncooked food enhances the metabolism and strengthens the immune system. The body will begin functioning to its peak performance. I also use natural whole body detox supplements (available from any health food store) because it enhances the excretion of toxins and old waste which has accumulated over the years.

During the first week, I also take Spirulina, probiotics, Zeolite, drink a lot of water, and wheat grass shots. My energy level during the first week is at its peak. I strengthen my mind by performing yoga and meditation. The second week, I start introducing cooked foods and add protein (beans, Vega-Protein Shake, tofu etc). The key is to lower the overall intake of high acidic foods, and consume a lot of raw foods, drink plenty of water and exercise.

Following a complete detox and a change in dietary habits, one will feel completely revitalized, regenerated and rid of years of toxic waste, which acted as a severe drain on our body.  By ridding our body of old toxins and waste, and optimizing our body’s natural functions, we strongly reduce (if not eliminate) the chance for diseases to take hold, as normally might be the case in a stressed, toxic and acidic body.


The “Joys” Of Cancer

My friend calls her blog the “joys of cancer’, however, I never thought there was anything joyful about a life threatening disease. Instead there was anger, pain, regret, blame, hatred and simply fear. But joy? My friend has cancer! The big C. When I first learned about her disease, I felt all of the above. Especially fear! Why her? I must have asked this question about a million times, and I know so did she. Then I discovered something very special ….there is indeed joy in cancer!

I flew out of state to see her and her daughter for two days. My heart was pounding all the way from the airport to the hotel. I felt nervous as I took the elevator to the 8th floor. And there it was again….this feeling of fear which takes your breath away, grabs your heart and squeezes it until you feel the physical pain as well as the emotional pain. I knew it all too well. I took a deep breath and knocked on the door….I heard voices from within. As I waited, I tried to swallow my emotions and by the time the door opened, I successfully managed to put on my smile and looked into the eyes of a beautiful little girl. My friend’s 9 year old daughter smiled at me politely and invited me into the room. And there she was. Her strong aura just as I remembered her; smiling, strong and surrounded by positive energy. Her energy field overshadowed her physical appearance a hundred times.  When I met her 15 years ago, her optimistic demeanor and positive attitude was one of the reasons why we became such good friends. Now, these qualities seemed to have enhanced even more. How can this be? She is fighting a deadly disease! She stood in front of me like a warrior, ready to kick the Big C’s behind. I was very excited and surprised to see her in such good spirit. The 48h hour countdown began.

We talked for the next few hours and enjoyed catching up. Her uplifting spirit made the word “worry” disappear from the dictionary. She has a contagious gift to make you see the world and life itself in a peculiarly positive way.  My friend may appear physically fragile, but her mind is stronger than the strength of a grizzly bear. As our laughs and chatter filled the room for the next two days, I was taken back to a carefree life we all used to have when we were younger (when you are young there are no worries and you are invincible).

But stop! What has changed? The only thing that has been altered is our attitude. We allow our social surroundings to influence us. The newspapers are filled with horrifying stories, the TV new channels are only talking about death, sorrow, and tragedy….human nature appears to be addicted to other people’s misery. And as this negativity creeps up inside of us, we stop trusting in the Universe. Not intentionally, but successfully.

As I watched my very ill friend carefully for the next 48h, I kept noticing the sparks in her eyes. All I could see in her face was true happiness and peace. And I finally understood! I found it…. the “joys” of cancer!

Simply, appreciate all the good things that happen to you, even if they seem unimportant at this time. Show gratitude and thank God and the Universe daily.  If you are unhappy in life (unfulfilled relationships or jobs etc) get out and find someone or something that makes you happy.  Laugh and enjoy life, take chances to avoid regrets! Don’t let the daily routine and its negativity take over, instead chose happiness and trust in the Universe. It only has good things for you in mind if you open your heart and listen to it.

 


Your heart is the essence of your spiritual and emotional being. Listening to your heart is much more valuable than always making decisions with your head. Your heart is joyful, creative and loving. If you believe that the heart is too uncertain and even misguided, then your head is talking! You may think that you act selfish by listening to your heart. Know that your ego is every bit as abusive as another damaging individual. If you have a “fight with yourself” you’re trying to justify yourself to your ego and convince it you aren’t this person, you don’t have these fears, you don’t have doubts and you really are capable. Your ego loves this because it will trick you into thinking that you can win the argument, that you can convince it and resolve the issue, and that you’ll receive peace after having this struggle with yourself.

The heart is a source of great richness, and this wealth is one that cannot be wasted or lost. It is the essence of your being, your joy, your love and compassion.

The Universe is listening to your heart and the power of the entire universe lives within you and all around you. Once you realize this and accept this, things will change for the better. I used to wish for love and wonder when my soul mate would come to tell me that he had arrived. I grew impatient and often doubted the universe because my soul mate did not appear as fast as I wanted him to. And the reason for this was simple, I (and perhaps my soul mate as well) was not ready!It was a hard lesson to learn, however, once I was ready for him, we found each other.
What you wish for will occur if you have patience to wait for it. The energy of the universe is powerful and your wish will come true. Believe what you wish for is always on its way. Take every chance that is offered to you because they will bring you closer to what your heart desires.
