How often did you wish for a garden, where you can grow your own herbs and vegetables? True, you can buy dried herbs or a pot of fresh basil at your local grocery store, but wouldn’t it be much nicer to have them freshly growing near by? Not only are herbs very expensive in the grocery store but they also start wilting in the refrigerator only a week later. Growing herbs indoors are a great way to get started with other types of indoor gardening, such as vegetables.
I like best about indoor gardening that I can grow herbs conveniently year-round. No environmental pollution or worries about extreme weather conditions. Everyone has a sunny location on a windowsill or counter top in your kitchen. By growing your own herbs you are more prone to use fresh herbs much more frequently as they are conveniently growing in your kitchen.
Another benefit of growing your own herbs is the better taste. Plucking your herbs freshly from your indoor garden tops every dried herb from the glass jar. And doesn’t it look just beautiful?
Freezing herbs for cooking is smart and easy. I do that with herbs that are growing fast so I wont waste them. I pick them, chop them and put them in ice-cube trays, fill up each compartment with water or olive oil and put the tray in the freezer. It’s a great way to spice up your soup or spaghetti sauce with antioxidant filled herbs and spices.
Water is the best way to hydrate your body and to stay hydrated throughout the day. You can enhance your water with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants by simply adding fresh fruit and herbs to it. Choose herbs like peppermint, rosemary or lavender and fresh fruits or even vegetables, such as berries, orange slices, lemon slices, pineapples, cucumbers and ginger. Mix these ingredients together. Be creative, pour purified water in a pitcher or glass jar and steep over night in the refrigerator so flavors can mix. Enjoy!
